Dr. Tanios-Rafla uses a Waterlase iPlus® laser to complete the revision. It usually takes a few minutes to be completed, and does not require any stiches. The Waterlase iPlus® laser is one of the most powerful and versatile lasers; it can perform more types of procedures than any other type of dental laser on the market. Using a laser means no scalpels, no scissors, no cutting, and no stiches are required to perform the procedure.  For “laser frenectomy” Dr. Tanios-Rafla uses the Waterlase iPlus® laser to release the frenum with laser pulses without even touching it, gently severing it from its attachment.

This laser gives an analgesic effect. Healing time is reduced drastically, as it does not create tissue trauma or charring, as some older lasers did.  The actual procedure takes 3-5 minutes, and full healing with new skin is evident within 10 days.  Post-operative discomfort is less than one might think. The area feels sore for 2-3 days, but adults, children, and infants will be able to eat and function normally.

We took our son to see Dr. Rafla when he was 5 weeks old. I had such a difficult time breastfeeding and thought it was normal to be in so much pain. Most people agreed it was including doctors, midwives and the hospital LC (lactation consultant). Friends told me it was okay if I couldn't breastfeed. Many are unable to. But breastfeeding is one of the most important aspects of a child's health and development and significantly impacts the health of their entire life!

Sure enough, after having an LC come to our house, we found out that our son had a tongue and lip tie. The LC referred us to Dr. Rafla, and within a few weeks the difference was night and day!

Dr. Rafla, made us comfortable with the procedure. She was very confident and reassuring. And she was well organized and attentive. It is very obvious that she is an expert in her field. The exercises were key to maintaining the success of the procedure. Dr. Rafla is adamant about them! But not many doctors are or even tell you about they're needed.
